Four City Developments Limited (CDL) venues have been offered for the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) to set up booths on 26 April 2003 to raise awareness and funds for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) caregivers. These include Lot 1 Shoppers' Mall, Chinatown Point, City House and Republic Plaza. SRC volunteers will be selling a specially compiled CD with songs recorded by local personalities paying tribute to the SARS caregivers. Proceeds will go to the people who have risked their own lives to care for SARS patients.
In addition, buyers of the CD will each receive a peach ribbon representing 'gratitude', 'appreciation' and 'sympathy'. Members of the public are encouraged to put on these special icons until 28 May 2003 or beyond if the SARS situation prevails. To further support the cause, all 300 CDL staff will also show their support by wearing the peach ribbons for the next 4 weeks.
Details of the CD Sale at CDL properties on 26 April 2003 are as follows:
1) Republic Plaza @ Raffles Place (Outside The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Level 1)
2) City House @ Robinson Road (CDL Customer Centre, Level 1)
3) Chinatown Point @ New Bridge Road (Open space between Coffee Bean and Swensens)
4) Lot 1 Shoppers' Mall @ Choa Chu Kang Ave 4 (Level 1)
Says Mr Kwek Leng Joo, Managing Director, CDL, "We just need to ask ourselves which other professionals are courageous enough to face the risk of infection, selfless enough to disregard their own lives and safety to care for people who are of no relation to them. CDL is pleased to support the efforts of the Singapore Red Cross in this meaningful project to acknowledge the admirable dedication of all the doctors, nurses, medical service staff and research personnel who are in forefront combating SARS."
