CDL Brings Inspiration To Cancer--Stricken Children

Mrs Goh Chok Tong, Patron of Assisi Home & Hospice - together with Mr Kwek Leng Joo, City Developments Limited (CDL) Managing Director - today unveiled a sculpture by Brother Joseph McNally to commemorate the official opening of Assisi Children's Centre.

The Assisi Children's Centre is a place set up for cancer-stricken children recuperating from their medical treatment - to study and play with other children suffering from the same illness. This facility is an extension of Assisi Home & Hospice, an independent and non-profit organisation that provides compassionate and holistic care for advanced cancer patients since 1969.

Mr Kwek commented: "City Building Management is glad to once again show our support to this worthy cause by contributing the sculpture, Lord of Heaven & Earth, to Assisi Children's Centre". City Building Management (CBM) is a subsidiary of the CDL Group.

He added: "We hope that this sculpture will be a daily source of hope, strength and love to the patients and staff of Assisi Children's Centre, just as we have been inspired by Assisi's devotion in caring for cancer patients and their families. They have done a great job in their compassionate work, and we find Assisi most deserving of our support".

The CDL Group has organised a number of events to help raise funds for Assisi - including $420,000 collected during the Hospice 100 Carnival in 1999. In 2000, the CDL Charity Bowl 2000 alone raised $100,000 for Assisi Home & Hospice. CBM also recently co-coordinated a fundraising food-and-fun fair, specifically in aid of Assisi Children's Centre.
