City Developments Limited Supports the Launch of Singapore Green Map, The First in South Asia

CDL is proud to be the main sponsor of the Singapore Green Map, the first green map to be launched in South Asia. Initiated by Singapore Environment Council (SEC), this project aims to promote Singapore as a country rich in ecological attributes as well as an environmentally sensitive city. Mr Kwek Leng Joo, CDL's Managing Director expressed, "We believe that the Singapore Green Map is a meaningful project as it offers nature lovers, environmentally-conscious people and tourists a useful guide on Singapore's green sites, so that they can visit these nature parks and reserves to appreciate the beauty of nature." CDL will distribute the maps to guests and customers of its hotels and shopping centres to promote greater awareness and usage of the Singapore Green Map.

With a strong desire to protect the environment, CDL makes a conscientious effort to be environmentally friendly through our business operations and community programmes. In 1999, we launched a nationwide Shop & Conserve campaign in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment's Clean and Green Week. The objective of the campaign was to promote the good habit of using eco-friendly recycled shopping bags so as to minimise the consumption of plastic bags, as excessive use of plastic bags would be detrimental to the environment. We also showcased endangered species of Southeast Asia in our Year 2000 calendar to remind the public of the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.

As a developer, CDL is committed to offering a living environment that is conducive for a healthy and comfortable lifestyle. For instance, more than 100 existing trees were preserved and another 300 trees were planted in Spring Grove Condominium. A 110-year old Victorian bungalow was also conserved and transformed into a beautiful clubhouse. CDL was also the first developer in Singapore to install energy-saving lifts in residential projects at The Florida Executive Condominium.

CDL extended its conservation efforts overseas by being the first Singapore organisation to take the initiative to help generate awareness for China Exploration & Research Society (CERS) by featuring the Society's efforts in exploring and conserving the natural and cultural heritage of China in its 1998 and 1999 corporate calendars. We also helped facilitate fund raising activities planned by the Society.
