In support of our national aspiration to be a world-class cultural city with a "renaissance spirit", CDL is proud to support Christie's International and Singapore Art Museum to bring the exhibition on the Masterworks of South-East Asian Paintings to Singapore. We are glad to play a part in providing the public with the opportunity to view these rare paintings of famous artists.
On CDL's sponsorship of this exhibition, Mr Kwek Leng Joo, Managing Director of CDL commented, "Art is an aesthetic creative expression of our soul and spiritual being. We believe in cultivating an appreciation for the arts as it nourishes our life and our sense of creativity, which is so very often numbed by the hustle and bustle of city life." Appreciating art is becoming very much a part of us as we aspire to become a renaissance city where cultural expression and graciousness are ways of life. CDL applauds the creative efforts of these talented South East Asia Masters, for they have carved an identity for South East Asian Art in the global scene. In doing so, they have immortalized their mark for future generations to be proud of.
CDL has always been a keen supporter of the arts. It has recently supported the Singapore Art Museum in staging the Canadian Art Exhibition: Inspirit Crossing - The Making of First Nations and Inuit Art in Singapore for the first time. Other arts projects sponsored by the Group include: the Singapore Arts Festival, the world-reowned Guggenheim Museum exhibits from New York, Sculpture Square and Singapore's first Art E-Auction in aid of Renci Hospital. Its subsidiary, CDL Hotels International, has also supported the arts by being the official hotel sponsor for Theatreworks 1998/1999 season, ACTION Theatres' critically acclaimed local musical production, Chang & Eng, and the hit musical Joseph and the Amazing Techicolour Dreamcoat.
